Traditional Argentine Foods
Undoubtedly, before coming to Argentina, you heard stories of its quality, affordable wines and cut-it-with-a-spoon beef. Certainly, Argentina’s cuisine is bold and hearty – but it’s not just meat and wine all the time! Inspired by waves of Mediterranean immigrants, the Argentine versions of pizza, pastas, empanadas and milanesas (a breaded cutlet supposedly from Milan) are delectable. Argentines also have an incorrigible sweet tooth, which means there is no shortage of facturas, dulce de leche, and ambrosial ice cream.
To balance the sweets, many popular drinks are quite bitter: mate, fernet or terma are good natural or sweetened and may even provide extra health benefits. Also notable are regional food specialties, like locro or humita from the Northernwest, or chipa from the Northeast. To find out more, keep up with our posts explaining the traditional cuisine of Argentina. And of course, dig in!
